Guatemala launches a new scholarship call for master's and doctoral studies at CATIE

• The second call for applications under the Scholarships for Our Future program will be open from August 1 to September 30, 2026. Applicants must first obtain an official admission letter from CATIE before applying for funding.

Guatemalan professionals seeking to pursue graduate studies abroad now have a new opportunity to access financial support. From August 1 to September 30, 2026, the Government of Guatemala has opened the second national call for applications to the Scholarships for Our Future program, an initiative that will enable students admitted to master's and doctoral programs to apply for scholarships to continue their academic training at CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) in Costa Rica.

Led by the Secretariat of Planning and Programming of the Presidency (SEGEPLAN), through the National Scholarship Fund, the Scholarships for Our Future program provides Guatemalan professionals with the opportunity to obtain full or partial scholarships to pursue master's and doctoral degrees at national and international institutions, including CATIE, thereby strengthening their expertise in strategic areas that contribute to the country's sustainable development.

Depending on the program's evaluation, applicants may be awarded either full or partial scholarships covering tuition, academic fees, research expenses, and other education-related costs, in addition to a stipend for accommodation, meals, study materials, and mobility.

One of the main requirements for applying is to have been formally admitted to the academic program of interest. Therefore, prospective students must first complete the CATIE admission process and submit their official acceptance letter as part of the documentation required by SEGEPLAN.

CATIE is currently accepting applications for its online master's degree programs, which will begin in September 2026. These include the Master's in Sustainable Agribusiness and Markets Management, the Master's in Watershed Management, and the Master's in Sustainable and Regenerative Coffee Production.

In addition, applications are already open for CATIE's international on-campus master's programs, which are scheduled to begin in March 2027. The academic offer includes Agroforestry and Sustainable Agriculture, Management and Conservation of Tropical Forests and Biodiversity, Sustainable Tourism (hybrid format), and Economics, Development and Climate Change, as well as CATIE's international doctoral programs. The Master's in Sustainable Tropical Livestock Production will also be available soon.

Those interested in participating in this second scholarship call must complete the CATIE admission process and submit all required documentation to the Scholarships for Our Future program before September 30, 2026.
