Central American Federation of the Dairy Sector and CATIE begin cooperative relations
- Last June 28th an agreement was signed in El Salvador
June, 30th 2017. The Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (known in Spanish as CATIE) represented by its director-general, Muhammad Ibrahim, signed a cooperation agreement with the Central American Federation of the Dairy Sector (FECALAC in its Spanish acronym) last June 28th in El Salvador.
The agreement is intended to establish and strengthen formal cooperation and joint action on issues relevant to sustainable intensification, natural resources, adaptation and mitigation of the effects of climate change, the environment and the well-being of families.
Ibrahim explained that CATIE will give support on research, training and project management for the development of systems and production chains of milk with a sustainable and competitive approach.
The signing of the agreement was carried out in the framework of the meeting of the Directing Council of FECALAC; An event in which Ibrahim was invited to present the research results of CATIE about sustainable livestock, as well as the challenges of the region and technological innovations for the sector.
FECALAC is an international private, non-profit, apolitical and non-governmental association, integrated for different representatives of the producers and the industry of the Central American dairy sector. It was originally established in El Salvador in 1996, as a result of an agreement of the First Central American Conference on the Dairy Sector.
