IICA Colombia and CATIE meet to prioritize cooperation actions in the country
- An alliance that will benefit the country's rural sector
August 8th, Bogota. In order to identify priority themes in agricultural research and education, IICA's representation in Colombia and CATIE (The Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) met to agree on joint cooperation actions that will benefit the rural sector of the country.
The actions will be developed within the framework of an agreement between the two institutions, which proposes: a) to develop proposals for policies and strategies aimed at improving governance, agricultural innovation and strengthening of food security programs; b) the design of methodologies and instruments specialized in agriculture; and c) strengthening the technical and strategic capacities of public and private actors; among others. To this end, a CATIE office in Colombia will be opened on August 17th in Bogota, as part of IICA's 75th anniversary celebration.
The opening event will be attended by Víctor Villalobos, director general of IICA, Muhammad Ibrahim, director general of CATIE and Humberto Oliveira, IICA's representative in Colombia. Representatives from public-private sector institutions, guilds and academia will also be present.
With this agreement, it is expected to strengthen institutional relations to stimulate, promote and support the efforts of the Colombian State to achieve agricultural development and rural well-being.
