The Dominican Republic and CATIE point to Higher Education

  • The institution signed two agreements, one with MESCYT and the other one with FUNDAPEC, in order to cooperate with training for Dominican professionals.

April 13, 2018. In order  to strengthen   cooperation in the  educational field, CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) signed an agreement with The Ministry of Higher Education , Science and Technology (MESCYT, its acronym in Spanish), as well  as with APEC Foundation of Educational Credit  (FUNDAPEC) of the Dominican Republic.

The agreement with the Ministry was signed between Muhammad Ibrahim, general director of CATIE and Alejandrina Germán, Ministry of MESCYT (Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology)

The interest is centered upon the exchange of students and professors; to develop investigations with Dominican Professionals in the agricultural industry, environment and nutrition; and also support the Dominican Republic Agricultural schools, in curriculum-related matters, investigation and extension.

On its part, the agreement with FUNDAPEC was to give financial support to the Dominican Republic students of academic excellence who would like to obtain a postgraduate degree from CATIE

In this sense, CATIE has the commitment to give a partial scholarship of 15% applicable to the cost of registration for students who plan to be full time studying a master’s degree at the Institution.  To enjoy this benefit, the student must have formalized his credit with FUNDAPEC and have been admitted at CATIE.

This agreement was signed by Persia Brito, director of FUNDAPEC, and Ibrahim.

The agreement with MESCYT has a duration of five years, while the FUNDAPEC agreement is for an indefinite period.

Both agreements were reached after an official visit of the General Director of CATE at The Dominican Republic, in the framework of the Central American Agricultural Council Meeting. (CAC)
