Visit the CATIE Botanical Garden with your social bubble

  • We will be open to the public from June 15, operating in a safe manner and adhering to the health protocols of the Ministry of Health

June 11, 2020. The Botanical Garden of CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center), located in the canton of Turrialba, will once again open its doors to the public from 15 June for those who wish to discover and tour a tropical world, full of nature and biodiversity, with your social bubble, of a maximum of five people.

This ecological tourism destination will offer guided and self-guided tours from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., operating in a safe manner and adhering to the health protocols required by the Ministry of Health, in order to protect the health of staff and visitors.

"After being closed for more than two months, due to the health crisis of COVID-19, we are ready to open our doors and attend to the public under the new normality we are living. During this time, we prepared and adapted the facilities; in addition, we improved all our cleaning protocols," said José Coto, administrator of CATIE's Botanical Garden.

The measures implemented include taking the temperature of all visitors with an electronic device, the use of masks among the personnel who must attend to the public, and the placement of a sink at the entrance so that visitors can wash their hands upon entering the site.

CATIE's Botanical Garden offers you the opportunity to stroll and clear your head next to your social bubble, just two hours from the capital, San José.

According to Coto, the nature of this place will provide you with mental health and help you release stress; you will be able to enjoy a quiet, safe and open environment, surrounded by nature, beautiful natural landscapes and the singing of many species of birds.

The Garden also offers nature trails, where you will have the opportunity to get to know many species of exotic trees, ornamental plants, forest trees, a medicinal plant garden, a bromeliad garden, the beautiful lake on CATIE's campus and one of the most diverse international coffee collections in the world.

"We have made many efforts to beautify the Garden and to keep our staff in the midst of the crisis, so that those who visit us can have a truly authentic experience, and now we are happy to be able to receive them safely," said Coto.

The entrance fee that CATIE Botanical Garden manages is as follows:

  • National adult: ₡2500
  • University or senior citizen: ₡1500
