General Directorate of Border Development and CATIE sign inter-institutional cooperation agreement

  • Both institutions will develop projects related to natural resource management, based on efficient water use and agro-forestry management.

August 25, 2021.The General Directorate of Border Development of the Dominican Republic and CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement to contribute to industrial agricultural development and the sustainable management of natural resources.

The objective of this agreement is to establish the basis for technical and scientific cooperation that will allow joint efforts of interest and capabilities to materialize, in order to exchange experiences and manage opportunities through the preparation of projects in the provinces that make up the border.

Both institutions will develop and implement work actions and projects related to natural resource management, based on the efficient use of water and agro-forestry management. They will also strengthen the integrated management of natural resources and the environment in livestock, forest management and conservation, drought, recovery of dry tropical secondary forests, tree crops, and the industrialization and marketing of their products and services.

At the same time, training will be promoted in priority areas for technical producers linked to agricultural production.

During the signing of the agreement, both institutions committed to establish specific works as the main mechanism for administration, planning, monitoring and evaluation of activities, as well as to generate and implement spaces for coordination and cooperation that contribute to promote the production and competitive management of natural resources in a sustainable manner.

The signing of this agreement, which will last for four years, took place virtually and was headed by Ramón Ernesto Pérez, Director of the General Directorate of Border Development, and Muhammad Ibrahim, Director General of CATIE.
