CATIE present at the first virtual fair for agricultural innovation in Colombia

October 20, 2021. Innovation in science and technology for the agricultural sector was one of the main objectives of the First International Fair of Agricultural Innovation in Colombia, a space for the exchange of knowledge where keynote lectures, business rounds, commercial stands, virtual tours and cultural events were presented.

The activity was carried out virtually and included a 360-degree tour through which participants and those interested in the different topics could visit each of the 120 stands set up, among which CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) was present to present its scientific work and practical experience through the implementation of various projects in the region.

The fair reached more than 24,000 visitors during the three days of activity; more than one hundred national and international organizations were present, with the participation of countries such as Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain, the Netherlands, South Africa, Japan, among others, as well as the presence of different universities, research centers and companies.

The virtual tour available to visitors included five pavilions inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Innovation for Well-Being; Bioeconomy; Agricultural Technology and Innovation; Partnerships for Innovation; and Sustainable Production.

CATIE's commercial stand was located in the Sustainable Production pavilion, where, in addition to presenting its work as a research center and international university, it showcased its alliance with Coolechera, a Colombian dairy products company, with whom it signed an agreement to join forces and support the Pilot Plan for the Colombian Caribbean, through the development of a program for the transition from traditional livestock farming to climate-smart livestock farming in the region.

The event was held from September 22 to 25 of this year and was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia, in conjunction with actors of the National Agricultural Innovation System of that country.
