Service Management and Provision Unit (UGO)
The Service Management and Provision Unit (UGO) of the Directorate of Outreach addresses and Development (DPD) at CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) the demands of the public and private sectors through competitive contracting processes, which are captured by the National Technical Offices (NTOs) of the Center in its member countries; CATIE’s Liaison Offices in other countries or through the Scientific Programs at the headquarters in Costa Rica. The UGO also manages information about opportunities through organized media about these matters.
The UGO is a catalyst for these processes of meeting demand as well as offering capabilities through participation in open calls for bids, such as public and private tenders and other forms of administrative contracting publicized using various means.
This unit has the technical and scientific backing of CATIE’s international and national staff at the headquarters and in its National Technical Offices.
When it comes to regional initiatives, at the UGO these opportunities are channeled per their thematic affinity to the programs, groups or specialists at the headquarters. In cases of national or local initiatives, they are channeled to the NTO personnel who will rely on the technical support from programs or other entities at CATIE. In both cases, this facilitates the preparation of expressions of interest and formal proposals for following up on the process, including the roles of negotiation and technical and administrative support when a contract is approved.
CATIE has NTOs and institutional liaisons in Belize, Bolivia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, the State of Acre (Brazil), Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic.
