Research program and graduate school

Coffee is one of the main lines of investigation in several master’s and doctoral programs at CATIE on topics such as: integrated pest and disease management; conservation and plant breeding; climate change adaptation and mitigation; evaluation of environmental services; agro-ecological interactions in agroforestry systems with coffee; design, redesign and management of shade in coffee plantations; diversification of coffee plantations (timber and fruit trees); specialty coffees and value chains; among others. CATIE has more than 15 investigators dedicated to the thematic area of coffee, 11 with doctorates and the rest with master’s degrees.
