WaterClima-LAC, Coastal Zone Management

This is a subsidy from the European Union for a project at four pilot sites: Mexico; La Paz, Honduras-Guatemala-El Salvador (Bajo Lempa); Argentina (Mar del Plata); and Haiti (Aquín and San Luis do Sud). The main expected project results include improved dialogue and cooperation for coastal zone management (CZM), and support and strengthening of technical and financial mechanisms for CZM, with analyses of climate change impact scenarios and vulnerability studies for coastal areas. International technical assistance to support the prefecture of Oruro, Bolivia - Sustainable Natural Resource Management program for the Lago Poopó Basin (Consortium Integration-CATIE)

This project’s objective was to contribute to the sustainable natural resource management of the Lago Poopó Basin, prioritizing environmental aspects. It also aimed to advise the project management unit and the institutions in charge of actions for its implementation, planning and management. This project had funding from the European Union. Reduction of Vulnerability to Natural Disasters, Agricultural Planning and Development of the Watershed Co-management Plan, Zona Sur de Haiti.

This agreement between CATIE and UNDP-Haiti was to provide technical assistance and training to the Ministry of the Environment on topics such as watershed management, co-management plans, risk management, natural resources management and agriculture. This project was implemented in 2013.

Program Regional Innovation, Learning and Communication for Adaptive Watershed Co-management (FOCUENCAS II)

The program objective was to develop adaptive and sustainable models for watershed co-management applicable to the biophysical, socioeconomic and institutional conditions representative of Central America. These models have been designed and are being validated and appropriated by local and national entities of Honduras and Nicaragua. The project was funded by ASDI for the period 2004-2011.

Project for the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources and Watersheds of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor in the Honduran Atlantic (PROCORREDOR)

The project’s objective was to contribute to improving quality of life for the population through the maintenance and restoration of ecological and economic functions of the Caribbean Biological Corridor. El project intervened in eight municipalities of Atlántida province: Tela, Arizona, Esparta, La Masica, San Francisco, El Porvenir, La Ceiba and Jutiapa. PROCORREDOR had funding from the European Union and it was implemented from July 2008 to November 2012 by a consortium of GTZ, EAP and CATIE’s National Technical Office (NTO) in Honduras.

Development of Management Plans for the Grande Riviere Du Nord and Cavaillon de Haiti River Basins

This consultancy was done jointly with OXFAM-Quebec to develop two watershed management plans in the northern and southern regions of Haiti. This project had funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), from January to December 2011.

Watershed Management Plan for the Jesús María River Basin, Costa Rica

The project was developed as a consultancy for the National Forest Financing Fund (FONAFIFO) of Costa Rica; it consisted of developing a watershed management plan for the Jesús María River Basin, one of the most degraded in the country, and appraising its ecosystem services. The project was implemented over six months in 2012.
