Social Responsibility at CATIE

For several years CATIE has been promoting the development of technologies and knowledge of practices for sustainable environmental management and administration. For this reason CATIE encourages the efficient use of resources by implementing programs for savings with electricity, fuel and water; and it has undertaken institutional actions that have helped diminish the center’s ecological footprint.

With an idea toward reinforcing these actions and encouraging the implementation of its institutional social responsibility policy, in 2009 CATIE began its Social Responsibility Program. The activities developed in this program include:

1. CATIE International Fair

2. Solid waste management program

3. Energy efficiency plan

4. Ecological Blue Flag Program

5. Community outreach

6. Training

7. Volunteerism

8. External and internal alliances

CATIE believes that an institution should have social responsibility, to its internal community as well as to its students and the teaching and administrative staff and even the setting, meaning the communities that reside on our campus as well as those related to the country that is home to us: Costa Rica.

This is why we develop the International Fair and we strive to maintain the parameters and the qualities necessary to retain our Ecological Blue Flag. You can learn about both activities below.
