Major projects

Since that is the convergence healthy  CATIE´s Panama NTO have developed several projects. Highlights include the Forest and Forest Management in Central America ( FINNFOR ) Cocoa Central Project (CCP ), the silvopastoral systems for adaptation and mitigation of climate change and Agroambiental Mesoamerican Program (AMP ) . To these must be added five more projects some of which are nearing completion in the year 2013 , while others extend through 2014 , inclusive. Take a look at our projects !.

Forests and Forest Management in Central America ( Finnfor ) . In its first phase is defined as a regional project for the seven countries of Central America ( Guatemala , Honduras , El Salvador , Belize, Nicaragua , Costa Rica and Panama , plus the tri Trifinio territory ) . The project aims to strengthen and multiply the sustainable use and management of forest ecosystems , including natural and secondary forests , plantations, agroforestry systems , and the integration of forest management in landscapes.

FINNFOR also contributes to the implementation of regional - PERFOR processes particularly within the Central American Integration System . The aim is that the actors associated with the forest sector in Central America have relevant technical and scientific information , technical capabilities and improved negotiation , alliances and networks that provide the basis for equitable production and , economically and environmentally sustainable goods and services forest through value chains related with them . This project completed its first phase in March 2012.

Central American Cacao Project ( CCP ). It is a regional project for the seven countries of Central America ( Guatemala , Honduras , El Salvador , Belize, Nicaragua , Costa Rica and Panama .) The objective of this project is that at least 6,000 farm families , organizations and governments (indigenous, municipal national and regional ) collaborate to increase productivity, competitiveness and the provision of environmental services in the cocoa sector in six countries in Central America.

Silvopastoral systems for adaptation and mitigation of climate change. This project is developed in the Arco Seco in the central region of Panama , climatic zone high vulnerability. For this, the CATIE spun different initiatives ranging from the La Villa river system to the development of small projects and direct assistance to farmers through the work of the Programme of Livestock and the Environment Management ( GAMMA ) . In 2011 began the studies were funded by FONTAGRO ; these about 1,000 farmers in the basin of the river La Villa, which , in carrying out their traditional practices are affected by bad weather were treated .

Agroambiental Mesoamerican Program (AMP ) . Through the program , in Panama have been funded and assisted seven initiatives with local partners to implement and extend the techniques and approaches of livelihood to multiply ecologically sound , economically competitive and socially equitable use of natural resources and the management and sustainable land use ( MST). The end was approaching a human being of rural families and reduce vulnerability to climate change. The initiatives have been developed in Azuero ( 2 ) Bocas del Toro ( 2 ) Darien ( 1 ) and Veraguas ( 2).
