Belize is a member of CATIE since 1994; however, even before that date, CATIE developed activities in the country,\u00a0 contributing with innovative and timely responses to demands f rom the government and the private sector in the country. CATIE can help the country in the following areas: <\/span>knowledge management, training in human resources, rural <\/span>development, extension, family farming, agroecology, cacao <\/span>and coffee agroforestry systems, sustainable intensification <\/span>of livestock production, forest management, climate change <\/span>adaptation\/mitigation, water balance and security, and <\/span>information platforms for holistic territorial analysis, among <\/span>others.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    \n\u2022 A report was prepared of the participatory Geospatial analysis\nof livelihood and infrastructure of interest.
    \n\u2022 A report of participatory risk assessment for other areas was\nprepared.

    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCATIE and IICA joined The Belize livestock producers Association (BLPA) for the preparation of a proposal submitted to IDB, aimed at promoting climate-smart technologies to reduce the vulnerability of the livestock sector to climate change and contribute to reduce GHG emissions in Belize. CATIE was responsible for providing technical support to foster the adoption of climate resilient practices aimed at increasing livestock production in Belize.

    \nThere were several achievements in this projects:
    \n\u2022 This project established model farms with silvopastoral\ninterventions to scale up improved technologies and it\ntrained 25 technical staff and 65 farmers.
    \n\u2022 There was a testing of 10 silvopastoral innovations in at\nleast one of the 10 model farms identified by BLPA in three\ndistricts.
    \n\u2022 There was a methodology for the Participatory Design of\nClimate-Smart Livestock Production Systems based on\nfarm baseline information.
    \n\u2022 A report was prepared on Lessons Learnt of Best Practices\nfor Increasing Resilience in Belizean Livestock Farms.

    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe capacity building program on Climate Smart Agriculture\n(CSA) aims to strengthening staff capacity at the Ministry of\nAgriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MoAFSE), the Rural\nResilient Belize Program (RRB) mainly the Climate Smart\nAgriculture Extension Officers and Technical Staff, along with\nother relevant agricultural institutions. The trainees were trained\nto use the Farmer Field School Methodology to transfer their\nacquired knowledge from the training to medium and small\nfarmers within their designated areas of Belize. Additionally,\nthe long-term goal is to increase Belize\u2019s Agriculture sector\u2019s\nresiliency in face of the negative effects of climate change.\nA total of 38 participants were trained in Climate Smart\nAgriculture, Farmer Field School, Integrated soil and water\nmanagement, Optimization of vegetable Production (Crop\nManagement), and Bee Keeping.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

    \nThe results of the consultancy were:

    \n\u2022 The Implementation of a value chain market assessment\nthat identified potential points of interventions and\nrelated actions within the priority value chain that provide\nsubstantial and sustainable returns to the program target\nbeneficiaries in each priority area.

    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThis regional project, whose thematic focus is on disaster risk reduction and early warning systems will be implemented in countries like Belize, Honduras, and Guatemala, in regions that are exposed to extreme weather events and unique in terms of vulnerability. The Project will be executed by entities like The World Resources Institute (WRI) and CATIE. The Adaptation Fund approved an amount of US$ 13.248.121.     The impact of our efforts is scaled up thanks to a network of partners in different sectors.     CATIE has supported countries to access climate finance through mechanisms such as the GEF, the Adaptation Fund, and the GCF. Since 2015, support has been provided in the design of NAMAs,\u00a0 especially for livestock, coffee, rice, and Musaceae in Costa Rica, Honduras, and Colombia. In addition, as an education center, it develops training activities, including climate finance. In the last four years, it has designed and implemented five international virtual diploma courses on this subject in Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Ecuador, training more than 120 professionals. Due to this experience, a new proposal called Climate Finance Training for Belizean Institutions has been submitted. The participants of this course will be able to apply what they have learned and contribute to the management of climate finance in Belize.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
