Dubai, United Arab Emirates.<\/strong> During <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/en\/el-catie-en-la-cop-28\/\">the Climate Summit 2023 (COP28),<\/a> CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) celebrated a significant achievement by reaffirming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.croptrust.org\/\">Crop Trust<\/a> 's support to strengthen the conservation of the International Coffee Collection housed in its headquarters in Turrialba, Costa Rica.<\/p><p>Crop Trust, an international organization dedicated to safeguarding the genetic diversity of crops worldwide, offered to continue supporting CATIE's efforts.<\/p><p>During strategic meetings at COP28, CATIE's Director General, Muhammad Ibrahim, along with Carlos Araya, Director of Business and Strategic Alliances, met with key representatives from Crop Trust to manage the acquisition of funds for CATIE's coffee collection.<\/p><p><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"CATIE en la COP28: resumen de participaci\u00f3n en Cumbre del Clima 2023\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9jg0dtRZQfc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; SICA &#8211; Sistema de la Integraci\u00f3n Centroamericana (@sg_sica) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sg_sica\/status\/1734992177430675672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 13, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure><p><\/p><p>CATIE's strategy for participating in COP28 has proven fruitful, not only by establishing and strengthening networks with governments such as Canada, Sweden, Norway, and Germany but also by engaging in crucial conversations with global financial instruments, such as the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German government, and the Mitigation Action Facility, formed by a consortium of European donors.<\/p><p>In this context, collaboration with Crop Trust represents a significant boost for CATIE, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and climate change mitigation.<\/p><p>During his stay at COP28, the Director General also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/en\/2023\/12\/05\/catie-en-la-cop28-director-general-gestiona-alianzas-de-cooperacion-en-agricultura-sostenible-para-america-central-y-el-caribe\/\">also held discussions with senior authorities from Great Britain<\/a>on the Biodiversity credits program <em>- Moving towards thriving nature markets<\/em>. CATIE's representatives shared valuable insights from their experience and knowledge, emphasizing their ability to scale biodiversity credits towards prosperous nature markets.<\/p><p>The Climate Summit concluded with an agreement to \"transition to phase out all fossil fuels.\" The 21-page document urges countries to abandon fossil fuels in their energy systems.
