{"id":29478,"date":"2024-09-27T15:58:02","date_gmt":"2024-09-27T21:58:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/?p=29478"},"modified":"2024-09-30T11:22:56","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T17:22:56","slug":"catie-recibio-a-delegacion-de-promecafe-y-giz-para-discutir-temas-relacionados-con-el-cultivo-de-cafe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/en\/2024\/09\/27\/catie-recibio-a-delegacion-de-promecafe-y-giz-para-discutir-temas-relacionados-con-el-cultivo-de-cafe\/","title":{"rendered":"CATIE welcomed a delegation from PROMECAFE and GIZ to discuss coffee cultivation topics"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em>They discussed the Scientific Congress celebrating the 75th Anniversary of CATIE\u2019s International Coffee Collection, which will address the latest developments in coffee cultivation and exportation.<br><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><br><\/li><\/ul><p>On September 27, the Director General of CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center), Luis Ernesto Pocasangre, welcomed Am\u00e9rico Herrera from GIZ; Lars Gottschalk from PROMECAFE-GIZ; and Daniel Dubon, Executive Secretary of PROMECAFE, to discuss the upcoming Scientific Congress for the 75th Anniversary of the International Coffee Collection, titled: The State of the Art of Coffee Production in the Americas, Asia, and Africa.<\/p><p>During this meeting, the three organizations highlighted the importance of CATIE\u2019s F1 hybrid coffee varieties, which have been distributed primarily throughout Central America. They also emphasized CATIE\u2019s role in the development of Costa Rica\u2019s Coffee NAMA (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action) under the TRANSFORMA-INNOVA project, funded by GIZ and IKI, of the German Government.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"478\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE8.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE8.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE8-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE8-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE8-18x10.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE8-600x337.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p>Additionally, together with William Solano, CATIE's specialist in plant genetic resources and agrobiodiversity, they discussed the region's interest in F1 hybrids, which feature traits such as resistance to coffee rust, high productivity, excellent cup quality, tolerance to abiotic stress factors (such as drought, excessive moisture, high and low temperatures), and their ability to adapt to lower altitudes, below 100 meters above sea level.<\/p><p>At the Scientific Congress, which will be held from December 3 to 5, PROMECAFE and GIZ will present on European Economic Community regulations for coffee exportation, as well as the good agricultural practices necessary for exporting this crop.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"636\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29480\" style=\"width:579px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE3.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE3-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE3-768x575.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE3-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VISITA-PROMECAFE-CATIE3-600x449.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p><\/p><p><strong>Join the celebration of the 75th anniversary of CATIE\u2019s International Coffee Collection<\/strong><\/p><p>The congress, to be held at CATIE\u2019s campus in Costa Rica, will include two days of keynote lectures from international experts and a day of coffee cupping competition, as well as a visit to the International Coffee Collection.
