The workshop was organized by Plan Trifinio and the Resilient and Biodiverse Landscapes of Northern Mesoamerica Project, funded by the UK\u2019s Biodiverse Landscapes Fund, and implemented by <em>Wildlife Conservation Society <\/em>(WCS) and CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center).<\/p><p>The workshop used the After-Action Review (AAR) methodology with the goal of strengthening management strategies and actions for the prevention, control, liquidation, and mitigation of forest fires in the region, allowing for a detailed review of the actions taken during the 2024 fire season.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"478\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/incendios-forestales-TRIFINIO2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29696\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/incendios-forestales-TRIFINIO2.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/incendios-forestales-TRIFINIO2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/incendios-forestales-TRIFINIO2-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/incendios-forestales-TRIFINIO2-18x10.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/incendios-forestales-TRIFINIO2-600x337.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p>The event served as a platform to identify areas for improvement in prevention and control responses and decision-making towards more sustainable environmental management.<\/p><p>The implementation of the AAR methodology allowed participants to analyze the challenges faced, lessons learned, and opportunities for innovation in fire management.<\/p><p>\u201cWe are here at this workshop to define actions for a strategic plan to control the 2024-2025 fire season, aiming for a more operational plan that will have a greater impact in the Trifinio territory,\u201d said William Espina, Technical Director of Plan Trifinio, Guatemala.<\/p><p>The results of this exercise will contribute to the development of new strategies for the next season, focusing on improving local capacities and coordination among institutions operating in the region.
