{"id":30270,"date":"2024-11-06T15:29:44","date_gmt":"2024-11-06T21:29:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/?p=30270"},"modified":"2024-11-06T15:31:51","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T21:31:51","slug":"proyecto-cienpinos-realizo-simposio-sobre-gobernanza-climatica-y-agroforesteria-sostenible-en-cuba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/en\/2024\/11\/06\/proyecto-cienpinos-realizo-simposio-sobre-gobernanza-climatica-y-agroforesteria-sostenible-en-cuba\/","title":{"rendered":"CIENPINOS Project Held Symposium on Climate Governance and Sustainable Agroforestry in Cuba"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>The project is executed by CATIE and the Indio Hatuey Experimental Pastures and Forages Station.<\/em><\/li><\/ul><p>The project <em>\"Municipal Climate Governance and Sustainable Agroforestry Production of Low-Emission, Climate-Adapted Food in Cienfuegos and Pinar del R\u00edo, Cuba\"<\/em> (CIENPINOS) had a prominent participation in the VII International Agrodevelopment Convention 2024, held in Varadero from October 21 to 25.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"508\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/CIENPINOS-gobernanza2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/CIENPINOS-gobernanza2.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/CIENPINOS-gobernanza2-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/CIENPINOS-gobernanza2-768x459.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/CIENPINOS-gobernanza2-18x12.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/CIENPINOS-gobernanza2-600x359.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p>The Convention, hosted by the Indio Hatuey Experimental Pastures and Forages Station, brought together experts and representatives from various countries to discuss key issues related to sustainable agricultural development and food security in the region.<\/p><p>The CIENPINOS project is implemented by CATIE's (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) Agroforestry and Genetic Improvement of Coffee and Cocoa Unit (UAMCC) and the Indio Hatuey Pasture and Forage Experimental Station (EEPFIH), with funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). Its objective is to contribute to the creation of the necessary capacities for municipal climate management and the management of sustainable, low-emission, climate-resilient agroforestry systems that conserve biodiversity in the municipal governments of Cumanayagua, Abreus, Vi\u00f1ales, and La Palma.<\/p><p>Additionally, the project involves the value chains of silvopastoral goats in the Southern Circuit of Cumanayagua, as well as grazing pigs in the pine-oak forests of Vi\u00f1ales.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"431\" height=\"709\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/CIENPINOS-gobernanza3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30274\" style=\"width:296px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/CIENPINOS-gobernanza3.jpg 431w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/CIENPINOS-gobernanza3-182x300.jpg 182w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/CIENPINOS-gobernanza3-7x12.jpg 7w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 431px) 100vw, 431px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p><strong>Training and Debates on Climate Governance and Agroforestry<\/strong><\/p><p>CIENPINOS organized several activities during the convention, including a theoretical-practical course and workshop on remote sensing with sensors, taught by Sergio Arriola Valverde from Geokare Sustainable Technologies S.A. of Costa Rica.<\/p><p>A symposium entitled \"Municipal Climate Governance and Sustainable Agroforestry Production of Low-Emission, Climate-Adapted Food in Cienfuegos and Pinar del R\u00edo, Cuba\" was also held.<\/p><p>The opening keynote was given by Luis Fernando Le\u00f3n Alvarado, an international consultant from Costa Rica, who presented on \"Rural Tourism and Climate Change in the Context of the CIENPINOS Project and its Actions in Cienfuegos and Pinar del R\u00edo, Cuba.\"<\/p><p>Throughout the event, 12 oral presentations and 13 poster sessions showcased project outcomes. Topics discussed included municipal climate governance; climate change mitigation actions in ecosystems; climate behavior and goat farming systems; the potential of oak forests for feeding native pigs; botanical characterization of goat farms; feeding behavior of goats in forest and scrubland grazing systems; and an evaluation of the agroecological transition in the Southern Circuit of Cumanayagua, Cienfuegos.<\/p><p>The CIENPINOS delegation was praised for its contributions to the success of the event.
