{"id":30863,"date":"2024-12-12T11:50:46","date_gmt":"2024-12-12T17:50:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/?p=30863"},"modified":"2024-12-12T11:50:49","modified_gmt":"2024-12-12T17:50:49","slug":"cienpinos-cierra-2024-con-exito-en-un-taller-de-productores-de-cerdos-criollos-belloteros","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/en\/2024\/12\/12\/cienpinos-cierra-2024-con-exito-en-un-taller-de-productores-de-cerdos-criollos-belloteros\/","title":{"rendered":"CIENPINOS Closes 2024 Successfully with a Workshop for Heritage Pig Farmers"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em>At the event in Vi\u00f1ales and La Palma, Cuba, traditional knowledge was highlighted, and the plan of activities for 2025 was presented.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/li><\/ul><p>The CIENPINOS project \u201cMunicipal Climate Governance and Sustainable Agroforestry Food Production with Low Emissions and Adaptation to Climate Change in Cienfuegos and Pinar del R\u00edo, Cuba\u201d concluded its 2024 activities with significant participation in the Workshop for Heritage Pig Farmers, held from December 4 to 6 in Vi\u00f1ales, Pinar del R\u00edo Province, Cuba. The event gathered 90 participants, including 70 farmers, and served as a platform to share research results, strengthen traditional knowledge, and plan activities for 2025.<br><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30866\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS2.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS2-300x136.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS2-768x347.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS2-18x8.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS2-600x271.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p><br>During the first session, Tania S\u00e1nchez, CIENPINOS National Director, presented the achievements in the various components of the project. Ongoing research and training activities carried out in Cuba and at CATIE in Costa Rica were highlighted.<\/p><p>The workshop also allowed component leaders to share the 2025 Annual Operational Plan (AOP), which was analyzed and discussed by the implementation teams from Pinar del R\u00edo and Cienfuegos.<\/p><p><strong>Capacity Building and Strategic Communication<\/strong><\/p><p>Nayda Armengol, responsible for the project\u2019s Communication component, highlighted the positive impact of audiovisual tools and stressed the importance of consolidating the project\u2019s presence on its website and social media to increase its reach. Meanwhile, Mildrey Soca, responsible for the project\u2019s Capacity Building component, emphasized the importance of training as a fundamental pillar of the project, presenting statistics reflecting the impact of these actions in 2024.<br><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"440\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30867\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS3.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS3-300x155.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS3-768x398.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS3-18x9.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/cierre-CIENPINOS3-600x311.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p><br><strong>Knowledge Exchange with Farmers<\/strong><\/p><p>The workshop included a session dedicated to gathering traditional knowledge, led by Roberto Yasiel Garc\u00eda. Through working groups, farmers shared their practices for managing heritage pigs and discussed solutions and alternatives to challenges. The participation of women farmers enriched the exchange, as they play a key role in the production chain.<\/p><p>A special moment was the premiere of the song Valle Vivo by the Vi\u00f1ales trovador Juan Labrada, a guajira dedicated to CIENPINOS that celebrates local culture and the project\u2019s work.<\/p><p><strong>Scientific Results for Local Development<\/strong><\/p><p>The event also served to share with attendees the scientific study results produced by CIENPINOS. \u00c1ngel Zald\u00edvar presented an inventory of pine-oak trees in Vi\u00f1ales, while Isyoel Urrutia detailed the 48 botanical species identified in the local ecosystem.
