The activity, held from February 11 to 13, 2025, was organized as part of the Resilient and Diverse Landscapes of Northern Mesoamerica project, funded by the United Kingdom and implemented in the Trifinio sub-landscape by the <em>Wildlife Conservation Society\u00a0(WCS)<\/em> and CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Teaching Center), in collaboration with the Trinational Commission of the Trifinio Plan and local partners.<br><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"531\" height=\"709\" data-id=\"32517\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32517\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones-2.jpg 531w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones-2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones-2-9x12.jpg 9w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"399\" height=\"709\" data-id=\"32518\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32518\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones-3.jpg 399w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones-3-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones-3-7x12.jpg 7w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><\/figure><\/figure><p><br>The workshop, held at the facilities of the Municipal Center for Training and Comprehensive Care (CICA), with flight practices conducted at San Diego National Park and San Felipe Las Barras, trained 18 participants from key entities in El Salvador such as the Civil National Police (Environment Section), Firefighters, the General Directorate of Civil Protection, and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.<\/p><p>Under the direction of Juan Jos\u00e9 Serrano Molina, a forest engineer from CATIE\u2019s Unit of Forests and Biodiversity in Productive Landscapes and a certified drone pilot, the attendees received training on Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), the applicable Salvadoran regulations, and conducted supervised drone flights.<br><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32519\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones4.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones4-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones4-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones4-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/drones4-600x450.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p><br><strong>Faster and More Effective Response to Fires<\/strong><\/p><p>The use of drones enables the early detection of fire outbreaks, facilitating a more efficient response to prevent their spread and mitigate the damage they can cause.
