It is part of the European Union\u2019s Mesoamerican Great Forests Program, with a regional scope covering the territories of the Selva Maya, La Mosquitia, the Trifinio Dry Corridor, Indio Ma\u00edz-Tortuguero, La Amistad, and the Dari\u00e9n.<\/p><p><strong>Training Environmental Leaders<\/strong><\/p><p>The capacity-building component led by CATIE aims to develop the competencies of environmental defenders, as well as key actors directly and indirectly involved in their work. This process is grounded in Principle 10 of the Rio+20 Declaration and the Escaz\u00fa Agreement, incorporating a gender and rights-based approach.<\/p><p>The team is currently designing the training and awareness program, which is based on a needs and capacity assessment conducted between March and April 2025. This assessment involved 112 participants\u201464 through focus groups in Pet\u00e9n, Panama, Trifinio, and Turrialba, and 48 through online surveys and interviews.<br><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tortuguero3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35690\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tortuguero3.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tortuguero3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tortuguero3-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tortuguero3-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tortuguero3-600x450.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Dr. Luis Pocasangre Enamorado, CATIE\u2019s Director General, meets with indigenous leaders from La Amistad during a diagnostic focus group held on April 25 at the Orton Library, CATIE, Turrialba, Costa Rica.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div><p><br><strong>Environmental Purpose<\/strong><\/p><p>The training activities are set to begin on August 8 this year, with a curriculum organized into three modules covering environmental human rights, forest environmental governance, and threat management for environmental human rights defenders.<\/p><p>One of the program\u2019s key features is the development of soft skills, particularly in conflict management and the promotion of a culture of peaceful coexistence. The training will also adopt a \"train-the-trainers\" approach to expand the program\u2019s reach and sustainability.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">The Weaving Networks project reflects CATIE\u2019s commitment to an integrated vision that links forest conservation and sustainable use with the promotion and protection of the human rights of those who live in these ecosystems and whose livelihoods are closely tied to the forest.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\"><div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>More information:<\/strong><br>L\u00edder del Proyecto:<br>Dra.
