{"id":35986,"date":"2025-06-26T13:49:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T19:49:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/?p=35986"},"modified":"2025-06-26T13:49:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T19:49:12","slug":"catie-y-la-universidad-de-auburn-colaboran-para-ofrecer-el-programa-en-conservacion-tropical-y-sostenibilidad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/en\/2025\/06\/26\/catie-y-la-universidad-de-auburn-colaboran-para-ofrecer-el-programa-en-conservacion-tropical-y-sostenibilidad\/","title":{"rendered":"CATIE and Auburn University join forces to offer the Tropical Conservation and Sustainability Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em><em><em>This program marks a milestone in CATIE\u2019s international outreach, positioning it as a key academic hub for global training in tropical conservation and sustainability.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/li><\/ul><p>A group of 14 undergraduate students from Auburn University in Alabama, United States, was officially welcomed at CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) on June 6 to kick off the academic program Minor in Tropical Conservation and Sustainability, which is being held for the first time in Costa Rica, with CATIE as the main host institution.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"567\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/universidad-Auburn5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35989\" style=\"width:584px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/universidad-Auburn5.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/universidad-Auburn5-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/universidad-Auburn5-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/universidad-Auburn5-18x12.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/universidad-Auburn5-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p>As part of their institutional welcome, the students met with CATIE\u2019s Director General, Dr. Luis Pocasangre, who delivered an inspirational talk.<\/p><p>In his address, he thanked Auburn University for trusting CATIE as a partner for this international academic experience and emphasized the importance of training young professionals committed to the environmental challenges of the tropics.<\/p><p>The 49-day program includes five courses designed and taught by faculty from Auburn University and CATIE: <em>Cambio clim\u00e1tico en los tr\u00f3picos<\/em>, <em>Manejo sostenible de los suelos tropicales<\/em>, <em>Manejo y conservaci\u00f3n de \u00e1reas protegidas en Costa Rica<\/em>, <em>Servicios ecosist\u00e9micos en Costa Rica<\/em>, y <em>Manejo de cuencas en el tr\u00f3pico<\/em>. Las clases est\u00e1n a cargo de docentes como la Dra. Chandana Mitra, el Dr. Yaniv Olshansky, la Dra. Miriam Wyman, el Dr. Wayde Morse y el Dr. Latif Kalin, quienes cuentan con el respaldo acad\u00e9mico y log\u00edstico del equipo t\u00e9cnico del CATIE.<\/p><p><strong>Strategic Alliances<\/strong><\/p><p>\u201cThis is a robust and collaborative academic program involving five Auburn faculty members and at least six CATIE researchers and professors.
