But most importantly, we help break the mental barrier that only someone highly specialized can do it,\" she stated.<\/p><p>The event was made possible through the joint efforts of the Community Innovation and Digital Fabrication Lab (LINC-FabLab) of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), in partnership with Costa Rica\u2019s Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications (MICITT), the Orton Memorial Library IICA\/CATIE, and CATIE. The mayor of Turrialba, Juan Carlos Hidalgo, was also present.<\/p><p>\u201cWomen not only can, but must be active participants in technological transformation. Breaking barriers like this\u2014learning to use a drone\u2014is the first step to proving it,\u201d said Dr. Luis Pocasangre, Director General of CATIE, during the opening ceremony.<\/p><p>Throughout the day, participants learned about the history and uses of drones, relevant Costa Rican legislation, safety measures, and of course, engaged in hands-on flight practice.<br><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Mujeres-drones5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36092\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Mujeres-drones5.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Mujeres-drones5-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Mujeres-drones5-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Mujeres-drones5-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Mujeres-drones5-600x450.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p><br>According to Jonathan Castro, coordinator of LINC-FabLab at IICA, this is a concrete way to bring technology and innovation closer to rural communities. \u201cWith Girls Take Flight, we show that knowledge and digitalization don\u2019t have to stay in the cities,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p><p>Participants from different communities shared the importance of such initiatives.
