Her name is Mirna Mar\u00eda Lacayo D\u00edaz.<\/p><p>Her story begins among the scent of freshly cut grass and the echo of cattle in the corral, where her father taught her that the land is not only worked \u2014 it is cared for, respected, and honored. Years later, upon returning to her hometown, Mirna discovered that her love for her family and for the countryside could also become a path toward change.<br><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"531\" height=\"709\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia3.jpg 531w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia3-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia3-9x12.jpg 9w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p><br>What began as a gesture to support her father turned into a personal mission. With endless curiosity and determination, she embarked on a journey of learning that led her to see her farm through different eyes: not just as a place of production, but as a living ecosystem capable of regenerating and giving life.<\/p><p>Thanks to the support of the project Transforming the Honduran Livestock Sector Toward a Low-Carbon Economy, known as MAF-Livestock-HN, funded by the Mitigation Action Facility (MAF) and implemented by CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center), Mirna has succeeded in transforming her farm into a model of sustainable practices \u2014 combining science, passion, and purpose.<\/p><p>Today, her land thrives with hope: trees offering shade to the cattle, soils that breathe, and water flowing again through the channels she helped restore.<br><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"850\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38490\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia4.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia4-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia4-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia4-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia4-12x12.jpg 12w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia4-600x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia4-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/futuro-ganderia4-250x250.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p><br>Recently, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) recognized her as a young female leader in sustainable and resilient livestock production.
