His role as a distinguished CATIE alumnus and his ongoing commitment to technical cooperation, innovation, and capacity building in the region were also highlighted.<\/p><p>\u201cThis is a historic day for CATIE because we are honoring a prolific son of this Graduate School, Dr. Otero. He is an outstanding graduate of this school, and we should feel very proud because he has represented us and held the highest positions in agriculture at the hemispheric level. Moreover, I am very grateful for all the support I have received from him, as Director of IICA, during my tenure,\u201d stated Dr. Pocasangre.<\/p><p>The recognition was also extended to architect Amanda Fern\u00e1ndez, wife of Dr. Otero, for her contribution to the design and modernization of the Orton Memorial Library, one of CATIE\u2019s emblematic spaces.<br><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"567\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero3.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero3-18x12.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero3-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p><br>As part of the institutional event, a commemorative plaque was unveiled at CATIE\u2019s Graduate School, marking the establishment of the Inter-American Chair in Tropical Agriculture Dr. Manuel Otero, a tribute symbolizing the IICA Director General\u2019s legacy and his contribution to the training of new generations in tropical agriculture.<br><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"567\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39436\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero6.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero6-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero6-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero6-18x12.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Otero6-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p><br>Moved by the occasion, Dr. Otero expressed his gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the formative value of CATIE in his professional and personal trajectory: \u201cThank you very much, everyone. I knew that coming here would be an emotionally intense day, but I did not expect so many expressions of friendship and affection\u2014something we sincerely appreciate.
