{"id":40468,"date":"2026-02-23T14:49:50","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T20:49:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/?p=40468"},"modified":"2026-02-24T13:23:28","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T19:23:28","slug":"catie-abre-la-matricula-a-la-segunda-edicion-del-diplomado-en-cacao","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/en\/2026\/02\/23\/catie-abre-la-matricula-a-la-segunda-edicion-del-diplomado-en-cacao\/","title":{"rendered":"CATIE opens enrollment for the second edition of the Cacao Diploma Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em><em><em><em><em><em>The International Professional Diploma Program Profitable and Resilient Cacao will be offered virtually, with the option to enroll in the full program or individual modules.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/li><\/ul><p>CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) has opened enrollment for the second edition of the International Professional Diploma Program Profitable and Resilient Cacao, an academic program designed to strengthen the technical and strategic capacities of individuals involved in cacao production, management, and commercialization.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"828\" height=\"466\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diplomado-cacao3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-40471\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.7768500821513598;width:560px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diplomado-cacao3.jpg 828w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diplomado-cacao3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diplomado-cacao3-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diplomado-cacao3-18x10.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diplomado-cacao3-600x338.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 828px) 100vw, 828px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p>Enrollment will remain open until April 24, 2026, and classes will begin in May 2026, delivered in a 100% virtual format.<\/p><p>The diploma program has a duration of 120 hours and is structured into three modules: Agronomy and Management of Cacao Farms, Agroforestry and Environmental Services, and Quality, Traceability, and Sustainability.<\/p><p>Each module combines synchronous and asynchronous sessions, thematic forums with experts, individual and group practical assignments, continuous assessments, and 24\/7 access to CATIE\u2019s Virtual Campus, an educational platform based on Moodle.<\/p><p>The cost of the full diploma program is USD 700, and participants also have the option to enroll in individual modules for USD 250 each. The training includes full access to the platform, academic materials, facilitator support, and official CATIE certification.<\/p><p>\u201cThis is the second edition of the Diploma Program, and the response from the sector has been very positive. So far, 108 individuals have participated in at least one module, and 68 have completed certification for the full diploma. During the previous edition, 16 participants were hosted in Costa Rica from October 1 to 3. Due to strong interest from participants in the Dominican Republic, a practical session was also conducted in the country from December 9 to 11, 2025, in San Francisco de Macor\u00eds, with 21 participants. On both occasions, participants had the opportunity to engage in intensive sessions where they strengthened their knowledge through theoretical lessons and hands-on demonstrations in cacao agroforestry systems under real production conditions.<\/p><p>\u201cActivities in the Dominican Republic included technical visits to the Mata Larga Experimental Center of IDIAF, the KoLFACI\u2013CATIE project demonstration plot in Salcedo, and the facilities of ROIG Agrocacao, where participants learned about fermentation, drying, storage, and grain traceability processes. These types of experiences strengthen decision-making in cacao agroforestry systems,\u201d explained Chelsia Moraes, member of the academic coordination team.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"668\" src=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diplomado-cacao5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-40474\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.7485205024443873;width:412px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diplomado-cacao5.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diplomado-cacao5-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.catie.ac.cr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/diplomado-cacao5-9x12.jpg 9w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p>During the practical week in Costa Rica, participants visited CATIE\u2019s facilities, the International Cacao Collection at CATIE, as well as the Nortico Cacao Farm and Rausch Tres Equis Cacao Farm, where hands-on training was conducted on the proper management of cacao plantations under agroforestry systems.\u00a0<\/p><p>The experiences shared by participants demonstrate the diploma program\u2019s impact on their professional development.<\/p><p>\u201cIt was a very positive and enriching experience. It allowed me to acquire practical and up-to-date knowledge, thanks to the support of highly qualified facilitators who demonstrated great professionalism and subject mastery. This learning strengthened my competencies in sustainability, profitability, and cacao resilience, making the process clear and meaningful. Without a doubt, this diploma program added significant value to my training and my perspective on the cacao sector, and I consider it highly valuable and strongly recommend it,\u201d commented Awilda Rodr\u00edguez, from FUPAROCA, Dominican Republic.<\/p><p>For their part, the Zorzal Cacao team highlighted the immediate applicability of the learning: \u201cThe three days of practice were highly valuable for us. We were able to test the knowledge acquired during the diploma and learn how to use different tools to perform more effectively in the field.
