Delegation of the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica visited CATIE

August 16, 2022. On the morning of August 14, CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) received at its campus in Turrialba, Congresswomen Rosaura Méndez, Paulina Ramírez and Congressman Alejandro Pacheco, together with their team of advisors, as part of a tour of the Turrialba canton.

Accompanied by Muhammad Ibrahim, general director of CATIE, Congressman Pacheco and Congresswoman Méndez made a field tour of the goat and agro-forestry module of the AGROINNOVA project, as well as the coffee and cocoa collections to learn about some of the work carried out by the institution in areas related to food security and strengthening coffee and cocoa cultivation, and how this work is having a positive impact on the development of Turrialba, Costa Rica and the member countries of the Center.

Both Congresswoman Méndez and Congressman Pacheco were impressed with the work that CATIE is doing to provide solutions to agriculture and said they hope that the Center will continue working with the support of the representatives and ministers of agriculture and environment to implement new projects.

"I congratulate CATIE for its invaluable contribution to research and for putting the name of Turrialba on a high international level," said Congresswoman Méndez on her social networks.

As part of the visit, the deputies also discussed with Ibrahim issues related to the vulnerability of Turrialba and how CATIE can support the territorial development of the Reventazón river basin and projects in the agro-tourism and environmental sector to support youth and women.

Ibrahim thanked the delegation for their visit and indicated that CATIE remains committed to working together to promote the green and sustainable development of Turrialba and the province of Cartago in general.
