      • This agreement will promote cooperation between the University of Wisconsin-Madison's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and CATIE.

27 September 2022. In order to facilitate cooperation and strengthen academic ties and promote mutual understanding, CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, agreed to explore the feasibility of establishing a framework for educational and scientific cooperation and signed a memorandum of understanding.

In particular, collaborative relationships and joint actions will be established in the areas of forest management and conservation, biodiversity and silvopastoral systems, as well as agroforestry systems, tropical agriculture and livestock, Inclusive Green Development and Climate Change.

The agreement also aims to strengthen ecotourism, and digital agriculture programs, encourage opportunities for youth, and the development of sustainable food systems.

Joint activities will consult with faculty, departments, and centers to explore policy research, applied research, and transdisciplinary teaching, as well as community-based research projects.

In addition, the technical units of both institutions will be encouraged to explore the feasibility of student and faculty exchanges for research, conferences, joint courses, and discussions.

In addition, CATIE and the University of Wisconsin-Madison will seek external funding sources for projects of mutual benefit, primarily for the student community.

The faculty and departments of both institutions will play an active role in exploring policies that will lead to the development of scientific publications of interest in the above-mentioned topics.

This agreement will have a duration of three years, during which time they will consult periodically on the status of explorations and other relevant issues, and to seek agreements, visits, exchanges, and other forms of cooperation to be developed for specific cases.
