      • They seek to strengthen multisectoral articulation in the productive transformation and social inclusion project in Turrialba.

January 25, 2024. Muhammad Ibrahim, director general of CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center), held a significant meeting on January 24 with the representatives of Turrialba, Alejandro Pacheco and Rosaura Méndez. The primary objective of the meeting was to discuss and strengthen CATIE's collaboration in the strategic project known as Nueva Turrialba.

The project aims to design a multisectoral platform that facilitates effective coordination among the government, the Legislative Assembly, local governments, the private sector, academia, and civil society organizations. The purpose is to accelerate productive transformation and promote social inclusion through innovative and impactful initiatives in the Turrialba region.

During the meeting, the Director General of CATIE reiterated the institution's ongoing commitment to the development of Turrialba. He emphasized that the Center is determined to actively participate in projects that bring significant benefits to the canton.

Turrialba, the place in Costa Rica where CATIE is headquartered, faces various challenges and seeks to enhance its opportunities through the Nueva Turrialba project. This collaborative space aims to build a shared vision and promote the necessary actions for its realization.

The leadership of Turrialba's representatives, Pacheco and Méndez, has facilitated the active involvement of key institutions such as the Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Commerce (MEIC), the Ministry of Public Education (MEP), the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), and the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Policy (MIDEPLAN).

The combined effort of these entities demonstrates a strong commitment to the sustainable development of Turrialba and underscores the importance of collaboration among different sectors to achieve ambitious goals for the community. CATIE, as a key player in agronomic research and sustainable development, reinforces its commitment to the region's progress and actively engages in initiatives that contribute to the well-being of the Turrialba population.
