June 14, 2024 is the deadline to start the admission process for the International Diploma in Biodiversity and Coffee Breeding, offered virtually by the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE).
This is one of the three higher diploma courses that make up CATIE's International Virtual Master's Program in Sustainable and Regenerative Coffee Farming. The curriculum is complemented by an International Diploma in Agroecological and Climatic Bases for Resilient Coffee Farming and an International Diploma in Innovative Coffee Farming (in conjunction with PROMECAFE). It is also possible to enroll in each of the diploma courses separately, depending on the thematic interest.
The program arose in response to the great challenges related to the constant impacts of climate change, degradation of coffee agro-ecosystems, as well as the general uncertainties generated by policies and markets, which compromise the enormous environmental, social and economic potential of coffee production.
Elias de Melo, academic coordinator of the program, emphasized that "this offer is unique in the current context for high-level technical training and is consistent with the great challenges of transforming coffee farming towards adaptation and mitigation of climate change, restoration of agro-ecosystems and the promotion of quality of life for producing families, workers and consumers".
Both the master's degree and the higher diploma courses are aimed at people with a bachelor's degree in disciplines such as agronomy, forestry, agroforestry, environmental engineering, biology, economics or similar, who are fluent in Spanish. The virtual modality allows 100% remote participation from anywhere in the world and opens the opportunity for autonomous learning.
CATIE's Graduate School has more than 70 years of experience in training leaders, making it the university with the longest track record in Latin America and the Caribbean in the areas of agriculture and natural resources.
The diploma course begins on Monday, June 17, 2024. To start the admission process you can visit the website maestriacafe.catie.ac.cror write to maestriacafe@catie.ac.crYou can also consult the curriculum and more details about the program at this link..
In September, admission will begin for the International Diploma in Agroecological and Climatic Bases for Resilient Coffee Growing, which is also part of the Master's curriculum and whose lessons will begin on October 21.
