      • The project, together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the Ministry of Women's Affairs, and the National Youth Institute, organized a gender workshop to socialize commitments in favor of equality.

To strengthen gender inclusion and empower women in the agri-food sector, a gender workshop was held within the framework of the project Transforming the Honduran Livestock Sector into a Low Carbon Economy (MAF-Ganadería-HN), implemented by CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center). This event, held on June 27, was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG), the Ministry of Women's Affairs (SEMUJER), and the National Youth Institute.

The main objective was to socialize the commitments in favor of women established in the National Women’s Policy, the III Plan for Gender Equality and Justice of Honduras 2023-2033, and the State Policy of the Agri-Food Sector of Honduras (PESAH) 2023-2043.

During the workshop, crucial topics for gender inclusion in the livestock sector were addressed. The National Women’s Policy and the III Plan for Gender Equality and Justice of Honduras 2023-2033, as well as the State Policy of the Agri-Food Sector of Honduras (PESAH) 2023-2043, were presented.

Additionally, proposals for affirmative actions to achieve greater impact in the livestock sector, presented by the MAF-Ganadería-HN project, were discussed.

The event highlighted the importance of commitments in favor of women, emphasizing the need to make women's contributions to the livestock sector of Honduras visible. Technical assistance was also provided in the development of indicators for the GESI Action Plan by the partner organizations and institutions of the MAF-Ganadería-HN project. GESI Action Plan, por parte de las organizaciones e instituciones socias del proyecto MAF-Ganadería-HN.

The workshop included the participation of public and private institutions, international cooperation, non-governmental organizations, and academia, all committed to transforming the livestock sector towards greater gender equality and sustainability.

According to Juan Carlos Flores, national coordinator of the MAF-Ganadería-HN project, the workshop reinforced among participants the ownership of the issue of gender equality and its relationship with livestock farming.

Furthermore, the coordination and inclusion of axis 5 of the III Plan for Gender Equality and Justice of Honduras 2023-2033, which advocates for the right to basic social protection and the national integral care system, were discussed.

Post-workshop follow-up will include maintaining contact with social organizations for the development of the GESI Action Plan, ensuring the continuity of commitments and the effective implementation of affirmative actions in favor of women in the livestock sector.
