AGROMIRA Gains Support from Costa Rica's Public Sector to Offset Environmental Footprint

- ICE donates 350 trees with support from MINAE-SINAC Turrialba
As part of the follow-up actions promoted by AGROMIRA 2025—an event that brought together over 300 participants from more than 20 countries on the CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) campus—350 trees were donated by the nursery of the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE), located in Cachí, Cartago.
The donated species (Dama, Cupania, and Cortez Negro) play a key role in the conservation of water resources and contribute to the region’s biodiversity. These trees will be used for reforestation in water catchment, recharge, and protection zones managed by the Union of ASADAS of Turrialba and Jiménez (UNATUJI).

“This contribution was made possible thanks to the efforts of Eng. Freddy Pizarro, Head of the Subregional Office of MINAE–SINAC in Turrialba, and Eng. Daniel Morera, Head of the ICE nursery in Cachí, Cartago, where the trees originated. We extend our sincere thanks to both for their commitment and collaboration in this initiative,” said Anthony Gamboa of the AGROMIRA 2025 Technical Committee.
These actions are part of ongoing efforts to offset the carbon footprint generated during the event and align with the principles of the Ecological Blue Flag Award. AGROMIRA 2025 was granted this recognition with a perfect score of 100 during its execution from May 6 to 8 at CATIE, Turrialba.
“It was a very enriching experience that allowed us to witness firsthand the commitment of ICE and its partner companies in the fight against climate change,” said María Fernanda Madriz of the AGROMIRA 2025 Logistics Committee.

These 350 trees add to the 200 trees (135 forest and 65 fruit trees) previously donated by Upala Agrícola. Those trees were planted during an initial reforestation day at the spring shared by the ASADAS of El Mora and Sictaya, in Santa Rosa de Turrialba.
The AGROMIRA 2025 team remains committed to building more sustainable communities and fulfilling its—and its participants’—commitment to the well-being of the environment.
