Mexican students can apply for scholarships to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees at CATIE

- The 2026 call for applications of the SECIHTI international scholarship program opens new opportunities for Mexican professionals to pursue graduate studies at CATIE in Costa Rica.
CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) invites students from Mexico to apply for the 2026 Call for Graduate Scholarships in Science and Humanities Abroad, promoted by SECIHTI, which provides financial support to pursue master’s and doctoral programs at high-level international institutions.
This call is aimed at Mexican nationals who are about to begin or have already been admitted to in-person graduate programs abroad, such as those offered by CATIE’s Graduate School, recognized for its focus on sustainability, territorial development, and natural resource management in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Key dates of the call
- Publication: March 10, 2026
- Application period: March 22 to May 22, 2026
- Results announcement: August 3, 2026
- Start of studies: between September 2026 and April 2027, depending on the academic program
The scholarships include direct financial support for the student, who will be responsible for managing the funds according to the allocation agreement.
$1,250 monthly stipend
$715 for medical insurance
Annual support for training expenses:
- Master’s degree: $4,000
- Doctoral degree: $10,000
CATIE offers graduate programs focused on addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, and the sustainable management of natural resources.
Among its academic offerings are in-person master’s programs, which will begin in March 2027:
- Agroforestry and Sustainable Agriculture
- Management and Conservation of Tropical Forests and Biodiversity
- Sustainable Tourism (blended modality)
Additionally, the institution offers doctoral programs and virtual master’s degrees, whose next cohort will begin in September 2026, in areas such as:
- Management of agribusiness and sustainable markets
- Use and management of watersheds
- Sustainable and Regenerative Coffee Farming
CATIE has established and consolidated agreements with organizations and institutions in Latin America that offer financing solutions for individuals interested in pursuing graduate studies abroad, thereby expanding access to quality education.

Interested applicants must begin their admission process directly with CATIE and subsequently apply for the SECIHTI scholarship within the established deadlines.
The process includes:
- Completing the online application form
- Submitting academic documentation
- Meeting the requirements of the selected program
- Applying for the scholarship within the official period
