CATIE, BIOFIN and SEMABICCE promote the strengthening of sustainable livestock production in the Báalam Beh biological corridor, Campeche, Mexico

- During three days of workshops, 52 producers from eight communities strengthened their capacities to promote more sustainable livestock agri-enterprises in the Báalam Beh corridor.
These workshops are part of the initiative “Promoting financing and commercialization of sustainable livestock production in the Báalam Beh corridor, Campeche,” implemented by CATIE with financial support from BIOFIN Mexico and under the leadership and coordination of the Secretariat of Environment, Biodiversity, Climate Change and Energy (SEMABICCE) of the Government of the State of Campeche, Mexico.

On March 28, 29 and 30, a series of workshops were held focused on strengthening the capacities of small livestock agri-enterprises within the corridor’s area of influence. The workshops took place in Zohlaguna, Calakmul; Ley de Reforma Agraria, Champotón; and Matamoros, Escárcega, with the participation of 44 male producers and 8 female producers from eight different communities—six from the municipality of Calakmul, one from Champotón and one from Escárcega.
The workshops addressed topics such as: the farm as a business, rural finance, access to and management of credit, risk mitigation, strategic planning, and commercialization and market niches for livestock products.

As a result of these workshops, seven small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises (agri-enterprises) interested in accessing financing have been identified. These will receive technical support throughout the entire management process, contributing to improved productivity and profitability in farms that already implement good livestock practices.
