      • CATIE opens 2026 admissions for its international master's programs in agroforestry, forest management, and sustainable tourism

CATIE’s Graduate School (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) announces the official opening of the admissions period for the 2026 academic year, inviting national and international professionals to apply to its master's programs.

“With more than 70 years of experience in higher education, applied research, and sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean, CATIE consolidates an academic offering designed to train leaders with scientific and technical competencies to address current environmental, social and economic challenges,” stated Dr. Luis Pocasangre, Director General of CATIE.

The on-campus programs available for this cycle include the International Academic Master’s in Agroforestry and Sustainable Agriculture; the International Academic Master’s in Management and Conservation of Tropical Forests and Biodiversity; and the International Master’s in Sustainable Tourism, the latter offered in a blended and bilingual format. These programs are distinguished by their scientific, interdisciplinary, and field-based approach, as well as their multicultural and academic immersion.

CATIE holds official accreditation from the National System of Higher Education Accreditation (SINAES), and maintains academic and scientific cooperation agreements with universities in Latin America, the United States, and Europe.

Its international campus, located in Turrialba, Costa Rica, offers access to laboratories, an international library, experimental farms, tropical forests, recreational areas such as a botanical garden, lake, coffee shop, souvenir store, and an International Club with swimming pool and tennis court, as well as housing for a diverse student and faculty community from more than 20 countries.

“Today I am the Director General for the Management of Forest and Wildlife Knowledge at SERFOR (National Forest and Wildlife Service) of Peru. I would not have achieved what I have without the knowledge acquired at CATIE. I received an excellent education with highly qualified professors,” said Héctor Vidaurre, CATIE graduate from the Master’s in Management and Conservation of Tropical Forests and Biodiversity.

For her part, recent graduate Rachel Medrano shared her experience: “This year I worked on my thesis within Costa Rica’s Livestock NAMA, which allowed me to learn more about sustainable livestock systems, apply everything I learned at CATIE, and work closely with producers. I hope to bring this knowledge back to my home country, El Salvador.”

Prospective students may submit their applications starting now and until February 20, 2026. The programs offer partial scholarships and support throughout the application process. Classes will begin on March 2, 2026, and space is limited.

To apply, you must complete the admission form available on each program’s website. The admissions team will provide personalized guidance throughout the process. You may also contact us via WhatsApp at (+506) 2558-2115.
