CATIE and the government of the State of Campeche discuss possibilities for technical cooperation

- Meeting between representatives of CATIE and the Secretariat of Environment, Biodiversity, Climate Change, and Energy opens the door to joint collaboration
During a recent visit by Claudia Sepúlveda, CATIE liaison for Mexico, to the state of Campeche, a meeting was held with Joselyn Durán Murrieta, M.Sc., head of the Secretariat of Environment, Biodiversity, Climate Change, and Energy (SEMABICCE), and Eng. José Leonardo Monterrubio, advisor, with the aim of exploring options for collaboration on strategic issues of conservation, biodiversity, climate change, and productive restoration. Edwin Pérez Sánchez, M.Sc., graduate and former coordinator of the BioPaSOS project, implemented by CATIE in the state during the period 2018-2022, also participated in the meeting.
“During the meeting, the institution's strengths in applied research, education, and technical cooperation were highlighted, which are central pillars for Inclusive Green Development actions. Through these, CATIE can provide support and technical cooperation to the Secretariat's thematic priorities,” explained Sepúlveda.
For her part, Secretary Joselyn Durán raised the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement or memorandum of understanding that would serve as a framework for collaboration on joint actions in the short and medium term. She also thanked CATIE for its visit and expressed her interest in strengthening cooperation to achieve the sustainability goals proposed by her office.
These approaches with the local governments of its member countries allow CATIE to continue promoting green inclusive development in the Latin American and Caribbean region through technical collaboration.
