CATIE contributes to strengthening regional capacities through a technical update cycle on data analysis for tropical agricultural research

• More than 60 professionals from Central America and the Caribbean participated in the first session, delivered by one of the developers of the Navure software.

On Friday, February 13, the technical update cycle on data analysis for tropical agricultural research began, organized by the Biostatistics Unit of CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center).

This initiative will run throughout 2026 through periodic lectures, structured sequentially to support the complete data analysis process, from data organization to interpretation and presentation of results. All sessions will have the support of different specialists in applied statistics.

The first lecture, entitled “Navure for agricultural data analysis: from database to results,” was delivered by Dr. Julio Di Rienzo, a renowned professor and researcher in biostatistics and one of the developers of the Navure software.

Broad regional participation

More than 60 participants from countries such as Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, and Belize, among others, took part in the activity. Attendees work in agricultural research institutes, Ministries of Agriculture and Livestock, as well as in higher education institutions.

For more than two hours, professionals exchanged questions with Dr. Di Rienzo and explored in depth the functionalities offered by Navure for the management, statistical analysis, and visualization of agricultural data, with emphasis on its practical applicability for research in tropical contexts.

Through this cycle, CATIE reaffirms its commitment to strengthening technical capacities in the region by promoting the use of specialized tools that contribute to more rigorous, efficient agricultural research oriented toward evidence-based decision-making.
