Peru's Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) Explores Collaboration Opportunities at CATIE
- Alliances with institutions like CATIE provide the necessary foundation to meet international standards and maintain competitiveness
The Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE) in Costa Rica recently welcomed Samuel Torres, Chief of Cabinet of Advisors, and former Vice Minister of Production (PRODUCE) of Peru, signaling a drive towards enhanced collaboration in the agricultural and forestry domains.
"I'm here to witness firsthand the remarkable endeavors undertaken by CATIE and to leverage the wealth of scientific knowledge it generates," expressed Torres following a meeting with the Director-General, Luis Pocasangre.
Torres underscored the significance of access to high-quality and cutting-edge scientific research for knowledge transfer, particularly for nations like Peru grappling with escalating demands for zero predation certifications in international markets.
"It's paramount for us in Peru to tap into forefront insights in agriculture and forestry," remarked Torres. "Collaboration with institutions like CATIE furnishes us with the requisite foundation to meet international standards and sustain the competitiveness of our products in the global market."
Mindful of CATIE's pivotal role as a premier research and innovation hub in Latin America, Torres is resolute in bolstering ties between Peru and CATIE.
His visit aimed to pinpoint areas of cooperation to address current challenges confronting Peruvian agriculture, especially concerning the promotion of climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices, alongside efficient water management.
