Sustainable Livestock Technical Roundtable of Petén Begins Strategic Planning Process

- With technical support from CATIE, a roadmap will be developed to strengthen sustainable livestock in the department
The Sustainable Livestock Technical Roundtable of Petén, with the technical support of CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) through its Livestock and Environmental Management Unit (GAMMA), has begun the process of drafting its Strategic Plan.

The objective of this effort is to define a shared vision and mission, as well as to establish coordinated objectives and actions that will serve as a roadmap to strengthen sustainable livestock in the department of Petén.
The first workshop took place in the central area of Petén and brought together non-governmental organizations, representatives from academia, and government institutions that make up the roundtable. The space was facilitated by CATIE’s technical team, promoting a participatory and inclusive process.
As part of the methodology, a series of construction and follow-up workshops are planned, which will conclude at the end of 2025 with the presentation of a strategic document. This plan will serve as the foundation for defining a joint work plan to be implemented starting in 2026, aimed at promoting a more sustainable, competitive, and resilient livestock model in the region.
