AMBIENTICO dedicates its latest issue to CATIE’s contribution to sustainable agribusiness in the region

- Academic publication of the National University of Costa Rica (UNA) highlights CATIE as a leader in sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The National University of Costa Rica (UNA) has published issue No. 295 of its quarterly magazine AMBIENTICO, dedicated to showcasing the contribution of CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) to strengthening sustainable agribusiness in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This issue brings together experiences from the team of CATIE’s Unit of Environmental Economics and Sustainable Agribusiness (UEAAS/EfD), as well as articles derived from the final projects of the Master’s in Agribusiness and Sustainable Markets Management (GANEMOS). The full issue is openly accessible at: https://www.ambientico.una.ac.cr/
“This special issue of AMBIENTICO is a concrete outcome of AGROMIRA and the coordinated work we lead at CATIE to position sustainable agribusiness as a strategic axis of development in Latin America and the Caribbean. It brings together research and field experiences that connect science with practice, many of them derived from the final projects of the GANEMOS Master’s program. Seeing this effort reflected in an academic publication of UNA confirms that through AGROMIRA and UEAAS, we are generating applied and visible knowledge that strengthens CATIE’s regional leadership in this field,” said Adriana Escobedo, coordinator of AGROMIRA and the GANEMOS Master’s program.
The issue includes 18 articles addressing topics such as higher education, value chains, financial analysis, circular economy, and co-creation with coastal communities, with applications in sectors like coffee, goat and pig farming, ecotourism, fisheries, and aquaculture.
Among the featured articles are: • “From Risk to Resilience: Keys to Strengthening Sustainable Agri-food Chains in Latin America” by Adriana Escobedo and Anthony Gamboa, • “Agrotourism Model to Promote Development in Two Cuban Provinces” by Andrea Garay and Anthony Gamboa, and • “Circular Economy with Wings: A Success Story of Reuse, Alliances, and Women’s Empowerment” by Eliecer Vargas and Evelyn Chaves.
