      • Becomes the first organization in Central America to be part of this network: more applied science for adaptation decision-making

CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) announces that it has joined the International Network of Boundary Organizations on Adaptation (INBOA), an international network that brings together institutions that connect the production of scientific knowledge with public decision-making processes and territorial practice to advance more effective and inclusive climate adaptation.

CATIE’s membership was formalized during the Adaptation Futures 2025conference, held in Christchurch, New Zealand, one of the leading global forums for scientific exchange on climate change adaptation.

In this forum, Ileana Ávalos, a researcher with the Climate Action Unit (UAC), represented the Center with the presentation Beyond Vulnerability: Integrating Climate Resilience and Environmental Governance for Security and Peace in Latin America.

CATIE’s entry into INBOA represents recognition of its more than five decades of promoting applied research, training, and technical assistance in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a focus on environmental governance, nature-based solutions, and strengthening local capacities. It also consolidates its role as the first center from the Central American region and the second in Latin America to be part of this global network.

“Being part of INBOA broadens our opportunities for international collaboration and peer learning, and strengthens our commitment to applied science for decision-making. It is also recognition of the work that CATIE promotes in Latin America, advancing resilience, collaborative governance, and sustainability,” Ávalos emphasized.

Through this incorporation, CATIE seeks to contribute to the exchange of experiences, the co-production of knowledge, and the building of bridges between science, communities, and governance systems. From its work in the region, the Center aims to bring the Latin American perspective to the international dialogue on climate adaptation, reinforcing its commitment to evidence-based, equitable, and multi-scalar climate action.
