CATIE's campus located in Turrialba, Costa Rica, just an hour and a half from San José, the country's capital. Its main characteristic is the scenic beauty, full of nature, in the middle of a rural and peaceful environment. There are more than 1,000 hectares in the middle of a mountainous landscape, where coffee plantations, agricultural activity and cane fields abound. In addition, it has a lake that turns out to be an incredible window to observe a great variety of birds and if you walk around, it is possible to find various animals, such as armadillos, squirrels, and coatis, among others.

Within this campus is the Postgraduate School building with classrooms, student residences and offices that are connected to the Internet and to CATIE's computer center by fiber optics 24 hours a day. In general, the campus has spacious and comfortable facilities for students and even for their families.

On August 6, 2021, the Municipality of Turrialba formally recognized the Tropical Agricultural Research for Development and Higher Education Center (CATIE) as a scientific and intercultural heritage of the canton and awarded it such a distinction in recognition of its scientific work and socio-humanistic projection in the community.

In the press release it is highlighted that, within the Turrialba canton, said institution always tries to rescue the recognition of cultural and biological diversity in its different forms, respect for nature and the sustainable use of natural resources, among others.

A unique coexistence

CATIE is an international community, a multicultural experience. In addition, learning does not only take place in the classroom, since coexistence, cultural, sports and leisure activities are also part of the learning experience that allows students to grow personally and professionally, from a multicultural approach.

Cultural, academic, and professional diversity, both among students and teachers, is one of the main components of our education programs. This multicultural environment is what fosters an open and international learning atmosphere that, in turn, promotes the continuous exchange of personal experiences and enriches the contents of each learning experience.
