CATIE present at Europe's most important annual conference in environmental economics and natural resources
- The researcher, Róger Madrigal, co-organizes a session that will address water management for human consumption in contexts of scarcity in Latin America, Ghana and Kenya.
June 19, 2023. At the 28th Annual Conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resources Economists (EAERE), CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) will be represented by Roger Madrigal, leader of the Environmental Economics and Sustainable Agribusiness Unit (UEAAS/EfD).
The EAERE Conference is the most prestigious environmental economics and natural resources conference in Europe and this year it will be held from June 27-30 in Limassol, Cyprus.
On this occasion, the CATIE researcher, who is also director of Environment for Development Central America (EfD Central America), together with Joe Cook, from Seattle University, co-organize the session entitled Water economics and policy in low-and middle-income countries..
"This session will include four empirical research papers funded by the EfD network," said Madrigal. He added that this study has in common the analysis of relevant aspects of public policy for the management of water for human consumption in contexts of scarcity in Latin America, Ghana and Kenya.
Specifically, Madrigal will present a joint work with Eduardo Pacay and Pablo Evia, both researchers from CATIE's UEAAS/EfD, as well as with Subhrendu Pattanayak, from Duke University, and Katrina Mullan, from the University of Montana.
"The presentation summarizes an ambitious comparative research on the use of volumetric tariffs for water management in community water organizations in Bolivia, Colombia, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama," Madrigal said.
