CIENPINOS stands out at the XIII International Symposium on Sustainable Management of Forest Resources

- The project strengthened its presence at the event with presentations on climate governance, ecosystem resilience, and sustainable production in Cuba
With a notable participation, the project CIENPINOS: Municipal Climate Governance and Sustainable Agroforestry Food Production with Low Emissions Adapted to Climate Change in Cienfuegos and Pinar del Río, Cuba, stood out at the XIII International Symposium on Sustainable Management of Forest Resources (SIMFOR 2025), held at the University of Pinar del Río Hermanos Saiz Montes de Oca.
CIENPINOS is implemented by CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center), with financial support from the Swedish Cooperation, and works to strengthen local capacities to face the challenges of climate change through governance strategies and sustainable agroforestry production.
At SIMFOR 2025, the project participated for the first time with a delegation of nearly 30 members, who presented concrete results and progress in climate governance, sustainable production, and ecosystem resilience. CIENPINOS led the panel “Climate Governance: Scientific Perspectives from CIENPINOS” and presented more than 20 papers, addressing topics such as the resilience of the pine-oak ecosystem, contributions to the Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Security Plan, sustainable production of the criollo bellotero pig, and the role of communication in climate governance.

These contributions highlight the project's impact on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the State Plan for confronting climate change (Tarea Vida), and the promotion of food security in the country.
In addition to the academic presentations, CIENPINOS representatives participated in workshops, colloquiums, tree planting activities, and thematic sessions on agroecology, gender, and social transformation, reinforcing the importance of integrating local knowledge and natural resources into sustainable development and rural tourism.
The participation of CIENPINOS in the symposium not only made the project’s progress visible in the territories of Viñales and La Palma, but also opened new opportunities to strengthen strategic partnerships and expand the impact of sustainable production and community resilience in Pinar del Río.
