CATIE advances its technical update series in data analysis for tropical agricultural research

- More than 50 professionals participated in the second lecture of CATIE’s technical update series, addressing key tools for experimental planning and statistical analysis applied to agriculture and the environment.
On Friday, April 17, the second lecture of the technical update series on data analysis for tropical agricultural research was held, organized by the Biostatistics area of CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center).
The lecture, titled “Planning experiments and observational studies in agriculture and the environment,” was delivered by Dr. Fernando Casanoves, professor in the PhD program in Natural Sciences and Sustainable Development at the University of the Amazonia and emeritus member of CATIE’s faculty.

The activity brought together more than 50 professionals in the field, demonstrating the commitment of various institutions, whose teams must coordinate their work responsibilities to participate in these training and professional development spaces.
For more than two hours, participants asked questions and discussed key aspects of experimental planning and observational studies. Topics covered included types of error and their control, the use of replication, randomization, confounding, and an introduction to statistical modeling, illustrated through practical examples.

The next lecture will take place in June (date to be confirmed). This series reaffirms CATIE’s commitment to strengthening technical capacities in the region, responding to training needs in tropical agricultural research.
